Clean-up in Brussels for Global Recycling Day

On Sunday 17 March, Waste Free Oceans (WFO), the SURPASS partners, Restless Brussels and Cohabs, organized a special clean-up operation for Global Recycling Day on March 18th, 2024, in Brussels. More than 40 people joined in to tackle waste pollution and spread the word about taking care of our planet.

Focused around the Canal Area of Brussels and armed with waste pickers, waste bags and a positive mindset, our volunteers collected over 160 kg of trash, proving the power of community action.

This was followed with networking drinks, allowing us to discuss the importance of proper recycling mechanisms and the education in reducing waste pollution throughout cities. Despite the rainy weather, participants stayed committed, showing their determination to make a difference.

"We're really proud of how well our partnership with SURPASS went on Global Recycling Day," said Serena Barthoux, Project Manager at Waste Free Oceans. "Seeing over 40 people join in, despite the bad weather, shows that we all care about our planet and want to do our part."

The event got attention from the media, with the RTL TV coverage highlighting the good work of WFO and SURPASS. WFO also thanks Cohabs and Restless Brussels for their support.

This event not only helped clean up a more desolated place in Brussels but also raised awareness locally and globally. It showed how important organizations like WFO and SURPASS are in making positive changes worldwide.
